An engineering student was found burnt to death under suspicious conditions in the fields of Pedapulipaka village of Penamaluru mandal in Krishna district on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Jammula Jeevan Kumar (22) of Vallurupalem, who was residing in Machavaram with his family. The deceased had an argument with his parents regarding his academics and behavior, and did not go home since Sunday night.
According to the police, a complaint was lodged by Lingisetti Simhadri Rao, Village Revenue Officer of Pedapulipaka, stating that a half burnt body was lying on the outskirts of Pedapulipaka village. Police swung into action and noticed the body with burns and a scooter was parked at a distance. They registered a case and started the investigation.
DSP Jayasurya said that Jeevan Kumar attended a birthday party in Vijayawada on Tuesday night. Later, he took his friend’s scooter and went alone to the place where he was found dead. Jeevan, who had an argument with his parents on Sunday, had not gone home since then and was staying with his friends. He last spoke with his parents at around 2 am, told his mother to take care of his dad and refused to go home. The police also secured the CCTV footage of the deceased going alone to Pedapulipaka, going to a petrol bunk, and buying petrol.
The police are investigating why Jeevan went there and whether it was murder or suicide. No other injuries were found on the body other than burns. The body was shifted to the Vijayawada government general hospital for post-mortem.
The DSP ruled out the allegations of honour killing and said a relationship had no role in the case. More details will come out after the post-mortem.
