NMC grants mercy attempt to MBBS students of 2019-20

In response to a directive issued by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has announced the provision of an additional attempt, known as a mercy attempt, to MBBS students who were admitted to medical colleges during the academic year 2019-20 but did not pass their first professional MBBS examination.

The circular issued on Friday stated that the NMC has decided to grant a one-time measure of providing an additional attempt, bringing the total number of attempts to five, for these particular students. This decision aims to offer them a fair opportunity to clear their first professional MBBS examination. They pressed that this special provision should not be considered as a precedent for future cases, as it is a unique measure taken specifically for the mentioned academic year and student cohort.

The announcement comes as a relief to the affected MBBS students who faced challenges during their initial attempt at the examination. This step taken by the NMC acknowledges the unforeseen circumstances that may have impacted their performance, ensuring that they are not unduly penalised for the challenges they encountered.
