Must read

High drama prevailed at Thullur village in Amaravati as the pro-Amaravati farmers protested against R5 Zone allotting house sites to the poor in Amaravati. However, the police foiled the attempts of Opposition TDP leaders and Amaravati farmers by arresting them on Wednesday.

TDP leader from Tenali Sravan Kumar called for a 48-hour Deeksha at Thullur against houses to poor and it was supported by Amaravati farmers and other organisations. The police, to avoid untoward incidents, imposed restrictions, but the leaders and farmers gathered at Thullur. The police asked the protesting farmers and TDP leader to stop, but in vain resulting in the arrest of leaders and farmers.

Further, the YSRCP supporters also decided to conduct a programme in support of R5 Zone. The police, expecting a law-and-order problem, imposed restrictions under Section 144 and Police Act 30 in Thullur. The police took over the control of the protest camp of Amaravati farmers and appealed to the farmers not to stage any protests in view of restrictions.

But the farmers were adamant and TDP leaders, along with Jai Bheem Bharat party president and Senior Advocate of AP High Court Jada Sravan Kumar, have organised a protest in Thullur. They raised slogans against R5 Zone and the Jagan government, and alleged that CM Jagan was trying to spoil Amaravati through creation of new zones.

Sravan Kumar also came to Thullur in support of the farmers. As the situation turned out of control, the police arrested Sravan Kumar and TDP leader Tenali Sravan Kumar and shifted them to the police station.

The women farmers entered into heated arguments with the police refusing to leave the protesting site and tried to create a ruckus, so the police took them into custody and placed several other TDP leaders under house arrest.
