One person has been arrested by the Malakpet police on Wednesday in connection with the murder of a 55-year-old nurse, whose beheaded head was discovered at a garbage dumping site near Afzal Nagar Community Hall, close to the Musi river on May 17. The local community has been left in shock by the gruesome incident.

The victim has been identified as Yerram Anuradha Reddy, aged 55. The prime suspect in the case, B Chandra Mohan, a 48-year-old bachelor involved in online stock market work, has been identified by the police. He resides in Chaitanyapuri.

According to the Malakpet police, the accused, Chandra Mohan, had been engaged in an illicit relationship with the deceased for the past 15 years. Anuradha Reddy, who had been abandoned by her husband, allowed the accused to stay in a portion of her ground-floor house. Additionally, Anuradha Reddy was involved in arranging loans with interest for those in need. It is reported that the accused borrowed Rs 7 lakh from her since 2018. Despite repeated requests for repayment, the accused failed to return the money. Subsequently, the accused devised a plan to eliminate Anuradha Reddy.

On May 12, during an altercation over the unpaid debt, Chandra Mohan attacked Anuradha Reddy with a knife, causing fatal stab wounds to her chest and stomach.

The police have registered a case under CR.No. 169/2023, involving Sections 302 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code, and have deployed eight teams to further the investigation.

The investigative teams have reviewed CCTV footage and searched for potential matches in the DARPAN app (a database of missing persons). They also collaborated with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Woman Safety Wing, State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB), and National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). They have also distributed coloured notices with the deceased’s photo in prominent public areas such as railway stations, bus stations, auto stands, metro stations, cinema halls, and major markets.
