The Panjagutta Police on Wednesday apprehended two men who had created a fake NGO in the name of Minister T Harish Rao, called it Harish Anna Seva Samithi, with the intention of deceiving prominent builders and industrialists and collecting large sums of money through fraudulent means.

The police revealed that both the accused have been associated with the BRS party as workers and used the name to build connections of potential victims.

The accused have been identified as Perala Venkatesh (26) and Rajesh Kumar (42). During the operation, the authorities seized several pieces of evidence, including a receipt book titled ‘Harish Anna Seva Samithi’ containing 69 duplicate receipts (37 of which were filled), as well as four cell phones.

The police revealed that Venkatesh, who is known for his association with Minister Harish Rao, intended to leverage his connections to influential individuals, businessmen, and social activists who visited the minister. He aimed to collect substantial amounts of money under the guise of Harish Anna Seva Samithi. The receipt book falsely claimed a registration number of 1963/2016 and mentioned the office address as 1-126, Vivekananda Colony, Kukatpally, Hyderabad.

Further, the accused Venkatesh enlisted the name of Gundala Mallesh Goud without his knowledge as the president of the fraudulent organisation, using his own cell number for contact. Venkatesh positioned himself as the vice-president, while his accomplice, Rajesh Kumar, assumed the role of general secretary, said police.

The first page of the fraudulent receipt book stated that Minister Harish was the first donor, followed by prominent ministers and leaders from the BRS. The police busted the fraudsters before any big sums of money could be extorted from the victims.
