The Andhra Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, has announced significant changes to the ‘YSR Shaadi Tohfa’ scheme by extending its benefits to four additional castes. The Dudekulu, Noorbasha, Pinjari, and Ladaff castes, belonging to BC-B and practising Islam, will now receive an increased financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh, up from the previous amount of Rs 50,000.
Previously, these communities were included in the YSR ‘Kalyanamastu’ marriage scheme, where they received Rs 50,000 as aid. In response to requests from various Dudekula associations, Chief Minister Jagan decided to incorporate these four castes into the ‘YSR Shaadi Tohfa’ scheme, thereby enabling them to receive Rs 1 lakh in financial aid.
Representatives of the Dudekula caste recently approached Chief Minister Jagan, requesting an increase in financial assistance. In a positive move, the government has acceded to their request. A Md Imtiaz, Secretary to the Government (Minority Welfare), issued an order to include the four castes of Dudekula in the ‘YSR Shaadi Tohfa’ scheme, ensuring that they receive benefits across all government schemes. The representatives of these castes are pleased with Chief Minister Jagan’s decision.
Under the ‘Shaadi Tohfa’ scheme, which was launched on October 1, 2020, a financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh is provided to minority couples upon marriage. The funds are directly deposited into the beneficiaries’ accounts.
