Sameer warns AIMIM MLC Baig

PNS | Hyderabad

Hyderabad DCC President Sameer Waliullah has strongly criticised AIMIM MLC Rahmat Baig for threatening TPCC President Revanth Reddy.
Baig had threatened to attack Revanth’s convoy as he had described the AIMIM as the B-team of the BJP.

Sameer condemned Rahmat Baig’s disrespectful behaviour, stating that Baig had stooped to the level of a rowdy by issuing threats of violence. He said that Congress workers were capable of giving a fitting response if AIMIM workers engaged in violence. However, Sameer clarified that the Congress does not endorse politics based on violence and intimidation.

He clarified that the Congress has never entered into an alliance with the BJP for the sake of power. He pointed out that Baig was attempting to target the Congress by highlighting an isolated incident from 2020 when some Congress councillors entered into an understanding with the BJP to seize the posts of Municipal Chairman and Vice-Chairman from the BRS.

He emphasised that the BRS and the BJP had forged alliances in several municipalities to keep the Congress out of power.

“Why did AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi continue his alliance with the BRS and did not ask Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to sever his ties with the BJP in those municipalities? The AIMIM never objected to the BRS supporting the BJP government at the Centre on several important issues like the CAA, the NRC, the Triple Talaq Bill or in electing the President and the Vice-President,” he said.

Describing Rahmat Baig as immature, the Congress leader said that the AIMIM MLC lacked the stature to speak about the TPCC President. He said that instead of targeting the Congress, the AIMIM should first explain what it has done for the Old City.

Sameer highlighted issues like the declining literacy rate, the high unemployment rate and the lack of basic civic amenities in the Old City.

He said that the only public hospital available, the Osmania General Hospital, faced funding shortages forcing people to go to costly private hospitals which interestingly were run by AIMIM leaders.

Waliullah challenged Baig to explain how many poor families in the Old City had received the double-bedroom houses provided by the State Government. He said that a large number of poor families in the Old City lived in slums without proper facilities and were trapped by private financiers.

He criticised Baig for attempting to divert attention from public issues by targeting the TPCC President and demanded an explanation as to why the AIMIM had failed to secure Metro Rail connectivity for the Old City in the last nine years, despite claims of being a BRS ally and that Asaduddin Owaisi is controlling the BRS.

Sameer warned AIMIM leaders to be cautious while speaking about the Congress and its leaders, asserting that they were fully capable of delivering a fitting response in the same language.
