In an initiative, the Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Society (TSCS) and Marham organised a conference in Hyderabad, where medical experts gathered to emphasise the critical role of Thalassemia screening during pregnancy. The event aimed at addressing the misconception among families that doctors recommend unnecessary medical tests and treatments.
Doctors stressed the significance of spreading awareness through word of mouth and distributing informational pamphlets. This approach would empower parents to make informed decisions about Thalassemia screening for their children. Dr Manjula Anagani, Consultant Obstetrician, Gynecologist, Clinical Director and HOD at Care Hospital, said, “By implementing universal screening across all states in India, we can make India and Telangana Thalassemia-free.
