The National Investigation Agency (NIA) officials took into custody Maoist leader Sirisha alias Padma who is the wife of one of the top Maoist leaders Akkiraju Haragopal alias Ramakrishna who died about two years ago.

The NIA officials went to Alakurapadu village in Tangutur mandal in three cars. They went to the house of Shirisha and questioned her. Later, they whisked her away to some undisclosed location. The family members of Shirisha told the media that the NIA officials pushed aside the family members and whisked away Sirisha.

The NIA officials also searched her house. VIRASAM leader G Kalyan Rao, who is the close relative of Sirisha, told the media that the NIA officials took away Sirisha without citing any reason. It is unjust to arrest a woman without telling the reason for arresting her, he stated.

The officials did not even tell where they were taking Sirisha to. He demanded that the NIA officials free her immediately. It may be mentioned here that Sirisha was also one of the top Maoist leaders but she surrendered to the police for various reasons a few years ago and since then she has been living in the village.

Meanwhile, Kalyana Rao went to the police station and asked the police officials why she was held. The police officials told him that she was held as a precautionary measure as the Maoists are organising ‘Maoist Week’ from July 28 to August 3.
