The floodwater in River Godavari has started receding with 6,44,857 cusecs of water being released from the Polavaram project.
Polavaram project EE Venkataramana said that the floodwater started receding and the water level stood at 32.040 m upstream of the spillway. The water level stood at 23.540 m downstream of the spillway. The water level stood at 32.790 at upper cofferdam and Rs 23.14 m at the down cofferdam. The water level stood at 22.577 at the Polavaram project.
Though the floodwater started receding, several villages remained submerged. Road connectivity still remained disrupted to several villages in Verlapadu and Kukkunur mandals. About 9 lakh cusecs of water was being released into the sea from Dowleswaram barrage. The water level is also coming down at Bhadrachalam, official sources said.
Road connectivity was disrupted to several island villages in Konaseema district including Kanakayalanka, Anagarilanka, Pedamallanka, Burugulanka, Udiudilanka and Arigela Vari Pet. The residents of these villages were sailing on the boats to reach a nearby town. The river Vashista and Vainateya which are the tributaries of Godavari were also in spate. The Gowthami River is also receiving heavy inflows. The flood water gushed into coconut orchards causing concern to the farmers in Konaseema district.
The approach road at Raigad Bridge in Paderu manal in ASR district was badly damaged in the floods. As many as 50 villages have lost road connectivity with the damage of approach roads. Former MLA Giddi Eeshwari saw the damaged approach road and the bridge. She alleged that the bridge and the approach road damaged since needed repairs have not been carried out for the last few years.
