Chief Secretary KS Jawahar Reddy has urged the officials of the Medical and Health Department to ensure that hospital deliveries are primarily conducted at the State’s primary health centres (PHCs) and community health centres (CHCs).
At a review meeting at the CS camp office in Vijayawada on Monday, various healthcare issues in the State were discused.
Jawahar Reddy said that whenever possible, hospital deliveries should take place at primary health centres and community health centers, with only high-risk cases being referred to district hospitals. To facilitate this, he directed doctors, ANM, and Asha workers in these facilities to establish and monitor targets continuously.
Addressing the implementation of the Aarogyasri scheme, the CS stressed the importance of limiting all simple procedures to government hospitals among the 3257 procedures covered under the scheme. He also called for an increase in Aarogyasri pre-authorizations in government hospitals to expand medical services to a wider range of cases. Notably, he emphasized that no Aarogyasri-related cases should be rejected at the preauthorization level, holding the HODs of DME and AP Vaidya Vidhan Parishad accountable for this task.
Discussing the family doctor concept, CS Jawahar Reddy highlighted the need for enhanced awareness of personal health among villagers and called for efforts to improve community health conditions. He specifically called for measures to reduce waterborne and vector-borne diseases in rural areas, urging people to boil water during the rainy season and raise awareness about proper sanitation practices. Reducing maternal and child mortality rates and ensuring widespread vaccination were also among the objectives outlined by the CS.
In addition to hospital deliveries and Aarogyasri, the CS reviewed cancer prevention measures, medical colleges, and other pertinent issues with officials from the Medical and Health Department.
During the meeting, Special Chief Secretary of the Medical and Health Department, MT Krishnababu, presented various programs related to healthcare through a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation.
AP MNIDC VC and MD D Muralidhar Reddy, Medical Health Family Welfare Commissioner J Niwas, Aarogyasri CEO MN Harindra Prasad, Commissioner AP Vaidya Vidhana Parishad Dr. Venkateshwar, and Director Medical Education Dr. DSVL Narsimham actively participated in the discussion, while Finance Secretary N Gulzar joined the meeting virtually.
