Heavy rains in Warangal, Hanamkonda and Kazipet on Monday night caused severe inundation and threw life out of gear.
Minister for Panchayat Raj Errabelli Dayakar Rao on Tuesday held a teleconference with six District Collectors and Superintendents and reviewed the situation. He directed the officials to install a toll-free number at the Collectorates to enable the people to call the officials in case of emergency. He instructed the Collectors to shift the people from low-lying areas to the relief camps. In view of the red alert being issued, he asked the Collector to put government machinery on high alert.
Mayor Gundu Sudharani and Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation Commissioner Rizwan Basha Shaik visited low-lying areas. District Collector P Pravinya visited several areas in the city and gave several suggestions to the officials.
The Met department issued a red alert on Monday in Warangal and Hanamkonda districts. Overflowing streams in villages disrupted traffic in several places. Vehicular movement on Warangal-Khammam national highway was also affected.
A total of 125 families were shifted to relief camps from the NTR Nagar colony. The colony was marooned. The low-lying areas like Sai Ganesh Colony, NTRS Nagar Colony, Brindavanam Colony and a few others were inundated.
Warangal Police Commissioner AV Ranganath and GWMC Commissioner Rizwanshaik Basha inspected the flood affected areas. They instructed the employees to be on alert in their respective areas and directed the authorities to be vigilant to ensure the citizens do not face any troubles because of the heavy rains.
