Creating waves once again, but now in the digital space, is actor Aamir Ali. He is now gaining acclaim for his role as a cop in the recently released series The Trial:Pyaar Kaanoon Dhokha, a courtroom drama, and we are all yet again pleased with his performance.
After his stint as Bajrang Pandey in Sab TV’s FIR, he now plays the character of a cop once again and he shared, “I played Bajrang Pandey, and Pradeep Shinde is completely opposite. He’s a cop; he’s a real cop. That is what I played. I want to do a role like this where I play a serious cop, the way a cop should be. And Bajrang Pandey had created an impact and left an impact. I had this thing inside me that said that when I play a serious role, there shouldn’t be a smile on people’s faces. So I had to, you know, wait and trust the makers I work with.”
He was also all praise for the director, Suparn Verma, who had offered him the role, and Aamir’s trust in the director brought him onboard.
While Bajrang Pandey (FIR) had this fun quotient that would tickle your funny bone, Pradeep Shinde, on the other hand, is a strong, serious, and typical cop one can imagine. The actor further spoke about his role and said, “He goes through emotions, and there are a lot of things in his personal life, but when it comes to work, he’s serious about his job, and Bajrang Pandey was how a cop should not be. I loved him too, and I loved this guy too.”
In order to play a particular character, an actor goes through multiple research and experience phases in order to do justice to the character. It was the same for Aamir as well. Having friends who are actually cops in Mumbai, he had a deep interaction with them, which helped him in total to play the character. He describes them as “very serious when they’re working”. “But when they’re not working, they can be anything they want. They’re innocent. They’re naive. They are smart in a few areas and not so smart in others. Pradeep Shinde is a smart cop, but when it comes to his personal life, he’s not that smart. So yeah, I used a couple of moments I felt I’d seen in the past,” he added.
Be it Faraaz or now with The Trial, he is now in the mood to so interesting work as he shared with us, “I’ve been trying to get back on track. But I’ve also been trying to do some interesting work by trying to work with some interesting makers. So, you know, they show us in a very different light. And I want to portray myself as an actor, which is the most important thing for me. You know, we’re actors, and if you work with this kind of maker who pushes the envelope, if you work with this kind of co-star who just helps you perform better, that’s what I want to do.”
Having been a heartthrob of the television industry, he is now surely getting back on track to become the heartthrob in the bigger picture. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that he has entered a new zone altogether. As we went further into tittle-tattle in this exclusive chat, he also went on to recall the days when filmmakers kept appreciating him and saying things like ‘my mother is a big fan of you, and stuff’, but were reluctant to cast him in the projects. He shared, “There have been many instances of mother, father, brother, sister, everybody, but there’s no casting happening because they don’t. Maybe you were seeing me in the kind of roles that I’ve done on television, which were very heroic and, you know, involved a lot of heroism. And OTT these days is very realistic. It’s very real. So they could not see me in that kind of character, and they would tell me. So yeah, there have been a lot of moments.”
Furthermore, he said, “I don’t shy away from the fact that I’m a very proud television star. I left television at the time because I wanted to concentrate on something else. So I don’t know. Yeah, there are better opportunities on OTT now. But for me, the way it is right now is always better because this is the way it is.”
During this transition in his life, his patience, rather than hard work, was the turning point in his character. He said in conclusion, “The turning point for me has been the kind of patience I’ve had to have with these kinds of shows. And now, I’m doing these kinds of projects”
