TS giving Rs 50k cr subsidy to power sector

Within a short period after the formation of the State, Telangana emerged as a state that has overcome power cuts and is providing continuous quality power to all sectors.

As per the vision of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, plans were made to attain self-reliance in power generation. This has led the state of Telangana, a leader in agriculture, industrial, service and business sectors to self-sufficiency in the power sector.

The power generation capacity of 7,778 MW in 2014 increased to 18,567 MW by 2023. The government has also massively expanded power distribution systems. It spent Rs 97,321 crore in these nine years to strengthen power generation and supply systems.

The government of Telangana is providing electricity subsidy on a large scale to promote sectors that contribute to the all-round development of the state.

After the formation of Telangana state, around Rs 50,000 crore was given as subsidy on electricity supplied to 72,41,000 consumers belonging to household, industrial and agriculture sectors.

The electricity given by the government is a boost to the economic development of farmers and various low-income groups which led to improvement in their living conditions.The government is providing free quality power to 27,48,000 agricultural electricity connections.

The government is bearing the electricity charges of BPL families. 35,61,000 households consuming 0-50 units of electricity per month, 25,00,433 Scheduled Caste consumers using less than 101 units per month, and 2,95,114 Scheduled Tribe consumers are benefiting from the government’s decision.

6,494 poultry farm owners, 32,654 hair-cutting salon owners, 65,806 laundry shop owners, and 56 Dobhi Ghats beneficiaries are getting the benefit of electricity subsidy.

The government is also supplying subsidized electricity to 5011 power looms and 39 spinning mills. The economy gained momentum due to the subsidized electricity given by the government.
