Under the leadership of Government advisor KV Ramanachari, a meeting was held with members of the Telugu Implementation Committee at the Boggikunta office to discuss and formulate the procedures for all Class X students in schools of all managements to write the exam in Telugu subjects.

The meeting was attended by Director of School Education Sridevasena, Chairman of Official Language Association Minister Sridevi, President of Telangana Sahitya Academy Juluri Gourishankar, Director of SCERT Radha Reddy and Telugu Coordinator Suvarna Vinayak.

Sridevi stated that at a time when educationists and national leaders are saying that all students should study in their mother tongue, it is a good thing to make every student in Telangana state learn Telugu up to Class X as it is an opportunity to know about the State language, literature and culture.

She added that even non-Telugu native speakers have the opportunity to blend in with the Telangana society by learning Telugu. The State government, which is moving forward in all fields, will be exemplary in preserving the traditions of Telugu language, culture and handing it over to the future generations under the leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.

The school education department has formulated procedures to implement Telugu in a phased manner. By the academic year 2022-23, the procedures are being formulated and implemented to teach Telugu from Class I to Class X.

From March 2020 to last year, in view of the crisis caused by the Corona epidemic, the department exempted Telugu from compulsory study in the academic years 2022-23 and 2023-24. The students who have studied Class IX this year will have to appear in the Class X exams in the academic year 2024-25 and write the Telugu subject as a board exam.

On the occasion of the World Telugu Mahasabha held in 2017, KCR called for Telugu to be taught from Class I to Class X in all schools of the State. In line with this, the State government enacted Act 10/2018 on March 31, 2018. As per the law, teaching Telugu in the government schools has become mandatory in schools even if they are affiliated to other boards i.e. CBSE, ICSE, IB.
