As flood water recedes, ordeals surface

Despite the flood water of the river Godavari receding, the ordeals of flood victims continued as many villages are still in flood water in Konaseema district.

As many as 50 students of Shivayalanka in P Gannavaram mandal were going to schools wading through the inundated roads. The students have to walk about two kilometers to reach their school.

The road leading to the school is in about one to two feet of water and the students were forced to wade through to reach their school. The students told the media that their uniform was soaked in the water as they walked two kilometers in the flood water filled road.

The villagers of Shivayalana told the media that they have been demanding the government for a long time to construct a causeway on the road at their village but the government has not responded so far.

The students of Udimilanka, Arigelavaripet, Burugulanka, G Pedapudi Lanka, Ayodhya Lanka, Anagarlank and Kanakayalanka villages are facing difficulties to go to schools as the villages are still surrounded by the Godavari flood water.

Meanwhile, Minister for BC Welfare Chennuboina Venugopal Krishna visited some of the flood affected villages including Kotipalli, Sherilanka in K Gangavaram mandal and knew the problems of flood victims. The minister distributed rice, red gram, onions, edible oil and potatoes to the flood victims.

Telugu Desam party district vice-president Datla Bucchibabu also visited some of the flood affected villages including Kallam Vari Palem, Gurajapulanka, Kamililanka and other villages in Mummidivaram mandal on Wednesday.

Speaking to the media, he alleged that the government miserably failed to provide required help to the flood victims.
