Govt hospital deliveries touch record 72.8%

Finance and Health Minister Harish Rao commended the achievement of the record-breaking 72.8% government hospital deliveries in July. He acknowledged the dedicated efforts of the medical staff responsible for this feat.

Conducting a review of the Health Department’s programmes and performance, Harish, along with Health Secretary Rizvi, CM OSD Gangadhar, TSMSIDC MD Chandrasekhar Reddy, District Medical Officers and Programme Officers evaluated the implementation and impact of health initiatives on Thursday.

He stressed that the percentage of government hospital deliveries has surged from a mere 30% before Telangana to a substantial 73%, signifying the department’s growth and excellence.

Pointing to the increased reliance on government hospitals for deliveries, Harish highlighted the expanding public confidence in the quality of services provided by these institutions.

He pointed out that government hospitals in Narayanpet district recorded an outstanding 86.9% delivery rate, closely followed by Medak at 83.5% and Jogulamba Gadwal at 81.1%.He also commended the districts of Jogulamba Gadwal, Medak and Nagar Kurnool for their excellent performance in securing the top three positions.

He emphasised the need to improve performance in Hanmakonda, Mahbubabad and Kamareddy districts urging medical officers to focus on areas where registration falls below the state average.

He emphasised the significance of the newly established typhoid scanning missions in government hospitals, particularly for pregnant women. A total of 32,000 scans were conducted through 56 TIFFs across 43 hospitals, furthering the government’s mission of providing free check-ups and treatment to pregnant women.

Harish said that an amount of Rs 1.6 crore had been allocated as team-based incentives for medical staff over the last year to encourage childbirths in government hospitals. He also stressed the importance of early breastfeeding and counselling about normal deliveries.

He reiterated Chief Minister KCR’s commitment to comprehensive healthcare for women, exemplified through the Arogya Mahila programme. He directed District Medical Officers to explain about the Arogya Mahila Programme during District and Mandal Mahila Samakhya meetings.

Stressing the importance of vaccination, Harish applauded the districts of Karimnagar, Medak and Bhadradri Kothagudem for their exemplary performance and called for better vaccination rates in Hanmakonda, Manchiryala and Khammam districts.

In the quest for enhanced healthcare, he announced the forthcoming opening of SNCUs at the Huzurabad Area Hospital, NBSUs in the Area Hospitals of Patancheruvu, Huzur Nagar, CHC Maktal, Dubbaka, Ghatkesar, Chityala and NRC centres in Eturnagaram and Amrabad CHC Hospitals in the next 10 days.

He emphasised the significance of the Centre of Excellence at Nilofar Hospital which links 18 SNCUs across the state aiming to provide 24-hour services and to prioritize the healthcare of newborns.

Harish stressed the importance of distributing combination drugs to those in need to ensure equitable access to medicines. He underscored the need for District Medical Officers, Deputy DMHOs and Programme Officers to assess the availability of hypertension and diabetes medication at the grassroots level.
