PNS | RAJANNA-SIRCILLA
Sircilla is abuzz with the production of national flags for Independence Day. The powerlooms produce 30 lakh metres of white polyester cloth. The cloth would be sent to the colour processing units in Hyderabad for dying. The colours of the national tricolour would be printed on the cloth. Once the printing of the flag is over in all respects, the cloth would be sent back to Siricilla to make the national flags.
In connection with the valedictory of the diamond jubilee celebrations of Independence Day, the State government has targeted to distribute 115 crore national flags. The necessary white polyester cloth is being procured from Gujarat also.
Telangana received a large number of orders from Patna, Surat, Maharashtra and Delhi which help generate additional revenue for the textile industry and its allied units.
The State government has directed the Telangana State Handloom Weavers’ Cooperative Society Limited (TESCO) to procure white polyester cloth to make flags.
In the first phase, it was decided to procure 36 lakh metres. The procurement may go up depending on the availability of the cloth.
The State government purchased each flag at a cost of Rs 12 last year. This year too, the government fixed the same price for each flag. The state government is yet to finalise the valedictory celebration dates.
The dyed flags would be cut into the desired sizes and stitched on sewing machines. As much as Re 1 would be paid towards stitching charges. In fact, 1,000 women are dependent on job work for their livelihood. The women would get orders for stitching the flags both in the private sector and also in the government sector. Each woman would earn at least Rs 1,500 per day by stitching the flags. They have been working 12 hours a day stitching the flags. Despite it, delivering the orders appears to be difficult. The cutting work of the flags is through. The stitching work remained. The workers feel fortunate to make the flags. They feel proud as the flags made by them would flutter high in various places across the nation.
