Mr. Pregnant is gearing up for a grand release on August 18. The movie is gaining attention because of its unique concept. As the title suggests, the ‘Mr’ in the movie, played by Bigg Boss fame Syed Sohel Ryan, gets pregnant. Produced by Appireddy, Venkat Annapareddy, and Ravinder Reddy Sajjala under Mike Movies banner, the movie stars Rupa Kodavayur as the female lead. Director Srinivas Vinjanampati, who is a former software engineer, left his well-paid job abroad and came to India with a passion for directing films. “I did a short film while in Canada. It got an award. The producer of this film, Ravinder Reddy Sajjala, is my friend. I told him the story of this movie. Appireddy heard the story through Ravinder Reddy. He liked it and told it to some women in their family as well as friends. They all got emotional after hearing this story and suggested Appireddy do this film. Thus the Mr. Pregnant project took off,” said the director.
Do you know that it was the incidents he faced in real life that made him write this story? The director shared, “Some events in my personal life inspired me to write this story. My wife gave birth to a premature baby. I saw how hard she worked to take care of that baby. I read in the paper that there is a male pregnant woman named Thomas in the US. Since then, I started trying to write one such story.”
To a soulful story, he added some commercial elements too. “When a male is pregnant, everyone reacts strangely. The audience will also be surprised at first, but we believe they will connect to the emotions in it. Only when someone does an experiment will we find a new way. Even when I was a software employee, I tried to be innovative in my job,” the foreign returnee added.
We wanted to know why he chose Sohel over others, and the reason he shared was: “We thought of some popular heroes. We shared the story with Nani and Vishwak Sen, but it didn’t work out. Sohel is my friend. He knows about this story. He told me many times that he would do it. He went to Bigg Boss when the story was almost ready. He got a good name in that show and became a popular face; hence, we felt Sohel was the right choice and that he would justify this story.”
Yesterday, they screened this movie to 100 pregnant women, and it received a positive response.
Furthermore, the director shared that Shravan Bharadwaj’s music is the biggest asset for the movie. “After the introduction of the characters, the audience will travel with the characters of the hero and heroine. The interval bang has come out very well, and the climax will keep you hooked to your seats. This is a movie that should be watched by a boy for a girl and a girl for a boy,” he concluded. Meanwhile, he is in talks for his next movie. Efforts are underway for a big project that is going to be a commercial flick, whose details will soon be made official.
