District Collector Rajeev Gandhi Hanumanthu on Sunday asserted that no harmful waste has been found in the Sri Ram Sagar project.

In an official statement here, the Collector said he had ordered a detailed inquiry into the rumours of discolouration of water in the project.

The Collector visited the Sri Rama Sagar Project on Sunday and personally inspected the water in the project on the instructions of Minister for Roads and Buildings Vemula Prashant Reddy.

The officials of the Pollution Control Board explained to Rajeev Gandhi Hanumanthu that although the water in the reservoir turned green, no harmful waste had been found in the water.

The Collector, however, ordered the official to ensure that the water in the reservoir was tested by the Pollution Control Board. Water samples were collected from 10 points from which drinking water is being supplied to households under Mission Bhagiratha for testing. Apart from that, water samples were collected from Basara, Yancha and other areas.

The preliminary tests, the Collector said, showed that the water was not contaminated. The Collector, however, instructed the Pollution Control board to collect water samples and send them for a comprehensive test at the lab in Sangreddy, the statement added.
