In a significant development, the Telangana High Court has firmly rejected the bail pleas of YS Bhaskar Reddy, the father of Kadapa MP YS Avinash Reddy, and their associate, Uday Kumar Reddy, in connection with the sensational murder of former minister YS Vivekananda Reddy.

Justice K Lakshman, presiding over a single-judge bench, delivered the verdict on Monday after reserving the orders on August 24. The court’s decision comes as a blow to the accused, who had argued that they were wrongly implicated in the case, highlighting the absence of witnesses and evidence presented by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The accused had been behind bars for more than five months despite these claims. Senior counsel T Niranjan Reddy informed the court about Bhaskar Reddy’s deteriorating health condition, emphasising his numerous medical assessments during his incarceration. Niranjan Reddy contended that since the CBI had completed its investigation and filed the chargesheet in June, the petitioners were eligible for bail.

However, the CBI vehemently opposed bail for the accused, citing concerns that their release could disrupt the ongoing probe. The agency informed the court that the investigation was in its final stages and raised questions about Bhaskar Reddy’s criminal history and his alleged involvement in tampering with evidence in the case.

In a related development, the CBI court had earlier dismissed Bhaskar Reddy’s bail plea in June. Bhaskar Reddy, along with Uday Kumar Reddy, was arrested by the CBI in April and charged with conspiring to murder former Andhra Pradesh minister Vivekananda Reddy.

0The CBI’s case alleges that Bhaskar Reddy and Uday Kumar Reddy conspired to eliminate Vivekananda Reddy due to their displeasure with his efforts to promote Jagan Mohan Reddy’s mother and sister as political rivals to Avinash Reddy.

Avinash Reddy, however, was granted anticipatory bail by the Telangana High Court on May 31, providing him temporary relief from the ongoing investigation.
