Edu institutions to remain closed till Dec 6

Vijayawada: School Education Commissioner S Suresh Kumar has instructed all District Collectors in the state to take steps to ensure the safety of children in light of the Cyclone Michaung alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department. The circular issued by him on Sunday says the alert specifically covers coastal areas from Nellore to Kakinada districts and is effective until December 6. The forecast indicates sustained surface wind speeds of 80-90 km, gusting to 100 km during this period.
To address this concern, the commissioner emphasised the possibility of declaring local holidays in educational institutions based on the severity of the cyclone and urged prompt attention from authorities.
Prakasam District Collector has announced a holiday for primary, secondary, and high schools running under all managements in Prakasam district on December 4 and 5 and informed all the school managements, students, and parents.
He also stated that the summative assessment exams of mathematics and TOEFL subjects which were scheduled to be held on December 4 and 5 will be postponed to December 11 and 12 respectively.
The Collector also instructed all the teachers and parents to take proper precautions to prevent children from going near dilapidated buildings and places where work is being done. He further instructed all teachers are required to be available at schools and none of the teachers shall be granted leave.
