Bureaucrats who curry favour with the ruling party become literally faceless upon regime change. Only those who have scrupulously done their duty always would have the courage of conviction to greet the new incoming Chief Minister without any hang-ups. Over the past few days, several babus have greeted Revanth Reddy at the Secretariat and conveyed their best wishes. However, top guns in the CMO of the previous government were conspicuous by their absence. The buzz is that these officers (not named but shamed by Revanth during the election campaign) are visualising worst case scenarios and are reconciled to their fate. So, they skipped even the courtesy call on the new CM. The funny question doing the rounds in official circles is: Are they ashamed or scared to meet Revanth? Putting up a brave front, a senior IAS officer commented: “It is courtesy on the part of senior bureaucrats to meet the new Chief Minister and convey their wishes. We are bureaucrats and see no difference. Regardless of which party comes to power and who becomes the Chief Minister, we have to work with the government.”
