Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said that they did not ask Prime Minister Narendra Modi to relax Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) limits. However, he said that they had asked for the sanction of assurances mentioned in the Division Act.
Bhatti said that they had explained the financial condition of Telangana. In response, the PM said that the Centre will help Telangana, he said.
“We gave a department-wise report regarding pending funds that have to be released by the Centre,” Bhatti said.
Alleging that the finances of Telangana derailed due to the financial anarchy created by BRS leaders, Bhatti said that they had appealed to the PM to help Telangana from drowning in debts.
He said that they had also appealed to the PM to release pending funds supposed to be released by the Centre soon.
He said that the PM had responded positively to their appeals and added that the PM had promised that the Centre would release funds meant for the state.
Bhatti said that he and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy explained to Prime Minister Modi the financial condition of Telangana state. He said that they had met the PM on behalf of the Telangana government to protect the State’s interests.
He said that they had made a courtesy call on the PM as it is part of the federal system and added that there is a need to protect the rights of Telangana as per the Division Act.
Speaking to the media after the meeting with the PM in the presence of Revanth Reddy, DCM Bhatti recalled that they achieved a separate Telangana for water, funds and jobs. However, the BRS government failed to safeguard the rights provided as per the Division Act.
“We appealed to the PM to give national project status to any major irrigation project as per the Division Act. We demanded national project status for the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme. We asked the PM to sanction the pending ITIR project and we also asked the PM to sanction an IIM and a Sainik School in Thiruvananthapuram. We discussed the Bayyaram Steel Factory and the Kazipet Railway Coach issue with the PM,” Bhatti said.
We didn’t ask Modi to relax FRBM limits, says Bhatti
