Since the Mahalakshmi scheme was announced, women are thronging TSRTC buses in the State. There is also one more request from women to implement the free bus travel in the Setwin (Society for Employment Promotion & Training in Twin Cities) buses also.
Shruthi, a passenger said, “Whenever RTC buses are packed with passengers I used to go to my destination in Setwin buses. If I wait for another bus I will not go as per my time schedule, That is why sometimes, I use Setwin bus services. So it would be better if the government implemented the free scheme in these buses also.”
Some women are supposing that the government implemented Mahalakshmi scheme in Setwin services also. Pothuraju Mallamma said, “I thought that the government is implementing the free bus scheme in the Setwin services also. When I got onto the buses, the conductor told me that the free bus scheme is not applicable in these buses. I felt embarrassed and I got down and picked up the RTC bus.”
Also some women passengers are accusing the Setwin bus driver and conductors that they were not saying that travelling was not free. Jaganti Laxmi said, “When I got on the bus at Mehdipatnam he did not tell me that it was not a free bus. But when I was getting down at NMDC Masab Tank, he had collected the fare. If he would have told me that it is a private bus, I could have picked up another bus.”
Setwin officials said that around 100 buses are plying in Secunderabad to Mehdipat nam, Charminar to Golconda, Mehdipatnam to Borabanda and other routes. Mini buses were sanctioned to economically weaker sections in the year 1979 under the self-employment scheme.
Women passengers are expecting free travel in Setwin buses too

People from the other districts are distinguishing between TSRTC buses and Setwin buses. Papamma, a passenger from Secunderabad said, “I thought every red and express bus is providing free bus services. But I realised that red buses also have differences as RTC buses and Setwin buses”.
