Debutante Shweta Mehta, who gained immense traction post emerging as the winner of MTV Roadies Rising, gets candid with The Pioneer about her debut, not being dependent on reality shows, and more.
Making a cinematic return is Shweta Mehta, who gained notoriety in the entertainment business in 2017 when she emerged as the winner of Roadies Rising. With a Telugu movie, the starlet has made her acting debut on an over-the-top platform. Shweta informed The Pioneer about her debut, saying, “When I was doing reality television shows, I had no interest in acting. My body was covered in so many tattoos that I could never have considered acting. Rannvijay Singha is currently very successful, so I thought, if they can, why can’t I? And he will always be my guru, and so will Neha Dhupia! I started hunting for jobs after my terrible injury and got in touch with the Telugu film business.”
She keeps in contact with the entire Roadie cast and crew concurrently. She progressively disclosed that everyone is shocked to see Shweta choose this path in life, and they will soon be posting video clips for her. Incredibly surprising!
Since she’s always been referred to as the ‘gym wali ladki,’ none of them could have imagined her acting. “I will always wear the Roadies tag, but it seems like I have a lot more work to do these days.” The rookie acknowledges, “I was never dependent on this reality television show.”
Among a select few performers, she finds inspiration in Anupam Kher and Randeep Hooda. “At this point, my preferred method of networking in the entertainment sector is to exclusively interact with gifted individuals. I wish to avoid social media. I want people to think I’m not a good actor just because I come from a fitness fraternity, so I need to build on my skills. Therefore, stay away from social media since it makes you feel like a zombie.” She shares the depressing information — “nobody was interested in casting me for almost two years.”
Having come from the fitness sector, they were already set in their ways. What extraordinary talent does she have that she can share with us? “I was the target of stereotypes because of my tattoos and physique. Those were particularly tough times because I was having a hard time persuading the casting directors to see past my physical attributes.”
Shweta spoke enthusiastically about her research for her role in Ajay Gadu, saying, “I’m giving gyaan on fitness in this movie too (she giggles). I’m playing a doctor who is also a heroin addict in this film, so there’s a really stormy element to my character. I was asked to put more effort into my personality. Speaking was another major problem! It’s hard to emote until and unless you are fluent in the language. My voice is rusky now, so I asked the production house if I could dub. Speaking in Telugu was therefore a problem.”
She revealed another difficult incident from the filming of her first feature, saying, “I don’t smoke at all! Although I have a bold personality, I actually don’t smoke in order to maintain my physical health. I had to smoke nearly 18 cigarettes a day for this movie in order to fit the role. I was only going to start coughing in the following weeks, so it was really terrible. They even offered me screenplay hacking, but I declined to be real.”
She was offered a South Indian doctor as the character. They altered it to an ethnicity from the North as soon as she joined the team, which helped her feel more relatable. Additionally, they named her Shweta, so she experienced some déjà vu on set! She was honest enough not to like the change.
Regretfully, the movie failed to generate the anticipated excitement, to which the debutante responds, “The buzz fluctuates based on the reception. I’ve witnessed big-budget movies receive intense marketing yet still fail at the box office! The filmmaker was more confident in his product than the hype surrounding it. People will eventually discuss Ajay Gadu. Reviews are never definite, no matter how much a promotion is.” Although she is often exposed to action genres, she is relieved that this film contained little action sequences because she thinks she can pull it off at any time. She is excited for some significant roles in the future!
