3D augmented reality glasses Revolutionary tech developed for knee replacement

Must read

With millions of Indians living with arthritis and a rise in surgery to prevent people from losing their mobility, newer user-friendly technologies are evolving.
Knee replacement has become one of the most common and successful operation in modern medical history and technology is focusing on both more modern implants as well as increased precision.
Dr Aditya Kapoor, Director of Orthopaedics at Omega Hospitals, Gachibowli, said, “In a groundbreaking development in the field of medical sciences, an innovative proprietary technology has been introduced for knee replacements (from France), employing computer navigation solutions through an inventive tracking tool during surgery.
A camera embedded in smart glasses accurately locates objects in a 3D space with millimetric precision, facilitated by specialised algorithms. The connected glasses meticulously calculate the 3D coordinates of instruments by analysing specific markers (QR-Code) captured through the integrated camera.
Navigated information is then displayed in the surgeon’s field of vision, interacting with the application through the glasses’ accelerometers. This advancement signifies a transformative leap in the realm of medical technology.”
Dr Aditya Kapoor performed the first surgery in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on a 60-year- old lady  suffering with severe osteoarthritis which was impacting her mobility for more than two years, using this technology achieving accurate limb alignment, reduced blood loss, smaller incisions and facilitating early recovery with the patient being discharged after a single night’s stay,  on Thursday.
