Thota Sitaramalakshmi, the West Godavari district president of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), has labelled the government’s recent announcement of the District Selection Committee (DSC) as a mere political ploy and a theatrical move.
Addressing the media on Saturday in Bhimavaram, Sitaramalakshmi asserted that the government’s timing of the DSC announcement, just a few months before elections, is a calculated move aimed at garnering political advantage. She criticized the ruling YSRCP, stating that if Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy genuinely intended to address unemployment issues, the DSC would have been announced much earlier.
Highlighting the YSRCP’s purported failure in job creation over its nearly five-year tenure, Sitaramalakshmi expressed disappointment over the government’s decision to fill only 6,190 out of 50,892 vacancies through the DSC, considering it a betrayal to the unemployed youth.
Sitaramalakshmi recalled Jagan Mohan Reddy’s unfulfilled promise of releasing a job calendar every January 1, emphasizing the Chief Minister’s inability to keep his commitment and the subsequent disillusionment of the unemployed populace.
Citing statistics, she claimed that Andhra Pradesh’s unemployment rate stands at 24%, significantly higher than the national average of 11%. The TDP leader deplored the alarming rate of 1,745 suicides among unemployed youths in the state, attributing the distress to the lack of employment opportunities.
Expressing concern over the exodus of unemployed youth to other states in search of livelihood, Sitaramalakshmi lamented the dire situation and criticised the government for cancelling the Intermediate examination for the sake of a YSRCP public meeting in Siddam. She also lambasted the Jagan Mohan Reddy government, claiming it has only excelled in making Andhra Pradesh a hotspot for ganja smuggling.
