7 children fall ill after injection

As many as 7 children fell ill after they were administered an injection in the Government General Hospital here on the night of Friday.
Hospital doctor Gowry told the media that they administered amoxicillin injections to nine children who were suffering from fever and were coughing. Within half an hour, after administering the injection, seven of the children had developed shivering and vomiting.
The doctor said that they noticed it and shifted the children to the Intensive Care for observation. A team of paediatricians constantly monitored the condition of the children. The children were out of danger, the doctors said.  The doctors confirmed that the children suffered from a reaction to amoxicillin injection.
The injection belongs to a new batch and it was brought to the notice of higher-ups, she said. GGH Superintendent Ramesh made it clear that a committee was set up to inquire about the incident. He said that the seven children were recuperating and they were out of danger.
Meanwhile, former MP Konadalla Narayana Rao and former Minister Kollu Ravindra visited the GGH and saw the affected children. They inquired with the doctors and parents of the victims about their health condition.
The TDP leader demanded that an inquiry be conducted on the incident. They also demanded to put in the blacklist the company which supplied the injection to the GGH. They alleged that the government is playing with the lives of patients by supplying sub-standard drugs to the GGH.
