The ruling YSRCP has surged ahead in poll preparations for the upcoming 2024 elections, significantly outpacing the opposition alliance.
With an organised approach, the YSRCP has swiftly announced candidates for crucial Assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies, providing voters with clear choices. The party has already unveiled over 80 candidates, with more imminent announcements expected in the days ahead, according to party sources.
In a surprising turn, the TDP-Jana Sena alliance is yet to disclose their candidates for the 2024 polls. Intriguingly, the alliance remains unconfirmed as both party leaders await potential collaboration with the national BJP for the forthcoming elections.
Following Chandrababu Naidu’s visit to Delhi, TDP and Jana Sena deferred candidate announcements by an additional 10 days after consultations with Amit Shah.
Sources suggest that during this period, Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan awaits communication from the BJP high command, with discussions on seat adjustments likely to occur thereafter.
TDP sources indicate ongoing negotiations with the BJP, with alliance discussions in their preliminary stages. Candidate announcements will follow once these negotiations reach fruition, sources add, with the prospective TDP-BJP-JSP alliance expected to be finalised by month’s end.
Meanwhile, leaders from both TDP and JSP eagerly anticipate candidate announcements from their respective party chiefs, as the ruling party has already unveiled a significant portion of its Assembly and Lok Sabha candidates.
It’s noteworthy that differences persist among TDP-JSP candidates in certain constituencies, leading to public criticism, a matter of concern for the alliance. Moreover, as both parties seek BJP’s collaboration to counter the formidable YSRCP, confusion mounts among aspirants regarding ticket allocations.
Surprising both TDP-JSP leadership, senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent remarks on alliances have injected uncertainty. Shah stated that while the BJP intends to contest independently in many northern states, it seeks dependable allies in the south. His comments regarding alliances in AP have left Chandrababu & co. disconcerted. Chandrababu, eager to expedite the alliance process, met with Amit Shah in Delhi, seeking clarity on the matter.
Conversely, senior BJP leader and MLA Butchaiah Chaudhary’s media statements post-Shah’s remarks emphasised that the alliance with BJP remains undecided, hinting at potential collaboration or support sans alliance. Notably, seat-sharing discussions are contingent upon BJP’s voting percentage in AP during the 2019 elections.
The announcement of TDP-JSP candidates for the 2024 polls has faced multiple postponements. Sources suggest candidates will be unveiled in phases, with the first list anticipated by the last week of January, though it was subsequently rescheduled to the first week of February and now earmarked for release by February 14.
Contrary to TDP sources, discussions on seat allocations were reportedly absent during Chandrababu Naidu’s meeting with Amit Shah. Instead, BJP leaders purportedly assured announcements concerning Amaravati capital and Polavaram project alongside the Prime Minister.
