With the Telangana government taking steps to fill five vacancies in non-state civil services in the state, some of the officials are trying their luck to get the conferred IAS posts in Telangana.

Normally, IAS is conferred on officers who hold gazetted posts for a minimum of eight years with good track record, show outstanding merit, and are aged below 56 years. There should not be any disciplinary case against them.

All departments have already sent the names of officials meeting the criteria. Now, the names of officials, selected in 1:5 ratios, will be sent to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

The names of people who are often seen orbiting top bosses of TRS are being bandied about as potential candidates. Among the aspirants, almost everyone is certain that E V Narasimha Reddy, Managing Director at TSIIC, and Ashok Reddy Korem, Private Secretary to Minister for Finance Medical Health and Family, are likely make it to the list.

An official whose name has gone for conferred IAS post said: “The departments have sent their names and may be 100-odd names have gone so far. Now, the state government has to select 25 and then UPSC will pick five. Now the rush is to get to the top 25. The state government can send some names, but the UPSC has the final say. So, everyone is trying their bit to be in the top 25”.

There are at least a couple of contenders in the Municipal Administration Department and the Panchayati Raj Department. Among the names that are doing the rounds are Minister K T Rama Rao’s OSDs Mahender and Katyayani. An official from the Telangana State Leather Industrial Development Corporation and a couple of aspirants from among zonal commissioners of GHMC are also hoping to make it to the list.
