For the last two days, Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president YS Sharmila Reddy has been involved in the process of selecting party candidates to contest in the coming general elections, at the party State office Andhra Ratna Bhavan in Vijayawada.
She started the scrutiny of candidates’ applications on February 28. She has been staying at the party office for the past two days.
On the first day, she verified applications of candidates for 49 Assembly constituencies under the seven parliamentary constituencies.
Sharmila is considering eligibility, conduct, and loyalty of the aspirants. On the first day, she verified the applications until midnight.
The scrutiny continued on Thursday also. On the second day, she verified applications for Srikakulam, Araku, Vizianagaram, Ongole, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Rajamahendravaram, and Kakinada parliamentary constituencies.
Applications for 67 Assembly constituencies were also checked. After the scrutiny of all applications, the Congress would finalise the candidates, said Sharmila Reddy.
As part of the scrutiny, Sharmila conducted face-to-face interaction with the Assembly ticket aspirants. Many aspirants are waiting for the call of Sharmila Reddy.
According to party sources, Sharmila will announce the candidates’ list soon. The party plans to ally with CPI and CPM in the coming elections. So, the party leadership is thinking of releasing the candidates’ list after seat-sharing discussions with the Left parties.
