Siddhu Jonnalagadda, after enjoying the enormous success of DJ Tillu, is back to give the audience the Tillu vibes once again with Tillu Square, which is all set for theatrical release on March 29.
Starring Anupama Parameswaran as the female lead, the Oh My Lilly song from the film has already gone viral, and the lead pair’s sizzling chemistry is being wowed by the audience. It is the first time the audience will get to see Anupama in the most contrasting role she has ever played, while Siddhu is going to be his usual Tillu self in the movie directed by Mallik Ram, previously known for films like Adbhutham, and Pelligola. Produced by Sithara Entertainments, the makers of the film have put in a lot of effort to make Tillu Square, as its prequel was a cult hit at the box office.
We have director Mallik Ram on board to discuss and share with us the efforts that went into making Tillu Square, how Anupama came on board the project after auditioning many people, and more.
To begin with, Mallik Ram and Siddhu’s movie was long-pending, and with Vimal (director of DJ Tillu) getting busy with another project, Mallik had come on board as the director of Tillu Square, and for them, making Tillu Square was more of a collaborative process. “It took us about 600 days to write this story. It’s a really special movie, in my opinion, and Siddhu and I had a really hard time recreating it. With this sequel, the story will come to an end. Though we haven’t given it much attention, we do have ideas for Part 3. First, we are awaiting the release of Tillu Square,” the filmmaker declared.
If you have watched the first part, Radhika is an emotion to many people, including Tillu, and even in this part, the Radhika emotion is being carried forward with glimpses of Neha Shetty in the film. Mallik clarified, saying, “The story is about the difficulty Radhika is creating in Tillu’s life and how he is overcoming it. He will be bothered by all of the faults he made in Part 1 during Part 2. When it comes to the narrative, there is a significant difference. Tillu Square is not a dark comedy; DJ Tillu was a black-comedy drama. It is a straightforward, commercial picture that is highly ubiquitous. Boldness is the nature of this film. That is Tillu’s expression of romance. Their discussions will all be intense.”
The entire team had put in so much effort in making this film that they even rewrote and reshot the 30-minute episode after interval. Meanwhile, speaking about why they chose Anupama as the female lead for a bold character like Lilly, which Anupama has never played in her filmography career, he mentioned, “Anupama was chosen for the role of ‘Lilly’ because she is a very gifted actor and the character is quite challenging to perform. Many people, including Madonna Sebastian and Meenakshi Chowdary, came in when we were searching for a heroine, and we were testing the entire time. The ideal actress for this part was Anupama. She moves really quickly, and she is a quick learner. We took her for that reason, and she pulled off her part very well.”
Sharing some personal details, the director mentioned that even though he had dealt with people like Radhika and Lilly in his personal life, only after they left, did his wife enter his life, and he is thankful that he came across people like Radhika and Lilly. Now his wife happens to be the costume designer for Lilly in this film. It seems like the film was made together with a bunch of family members, like friends, and it is to be awaited and seen how it performs at the box office.
