The Bharat Rashtra Samithi has filed a complaint with the Director General of Police (DGP) regarding the unlawful targeting of its party members, especially social media activists, by both the government and the police.
The complaint said that the State government, led by Congress, has been violating democratic principles. Allegations include promoting activities aimed at obstructing law enforcement and harassing BRS opposition members. Criticism of governmental policies is reportedly met with harsh response and to the posts criticizing the government on social media, police are zealously filing cases”.
The leaders claimed the police were resortering to random arrests and threats via phone calls, to suppress opposition voices. They alleged that individuals with a criminal history attempted to assassinate MLA Adluri Laxman, reportedly due to his social media posts critical of Congress.
The BRS said, “such actions are viewed as unacceptable by the entire Telangana society seeing the behavior of the police. No matter which government is in power, the police should act in a way that protects democracy and freedom of speech”.
