Sid Sriram, the singer of Srivalli, made Coachella 2024 history by being the first South Indian performer. Due to his performance at the festival, Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh grabbed headlines last year. At Coachella, Sriram sang a holy Tamil song called Thiruppugazh, which is devoted to Lord Murugan, as he concluded his performance.
The performer posted an explanation of his decision on Instagram, saying, “I probably would have laughed and gone back to daydreaming if you had told 9-year-old me that I’d end my @coachella set with the Thiruppugazh my mother had just taught me. In 2024, the festival welcomes its first-ever South Indian performer.”
“My name is Sid Sriram; I was born in Chennai, India, and I grew up in the Bay Area, California,” the caption of his photo said. “I’m proud of every single aspect of my identity, and I’m from a discipline called Carnatic music. I also assure you that we are headed toward a global revolution in music, love, and healing.” During his performance at the event, Sriram, a professional Carnatic singer, mixed R&B with Carnatic music. The artist is also well-known for her playback vocals in the Tamil and Telugu cinema industries. In addition to working with Oscar-winning artists like AR Rahman, he made his feature debut in the film Vaanam Kottatum, directed by Mani Ratnam.
