Travel transcends mere leisure. It’s a vital source of inner peace and renewal, and so has it been for actor Romanch Mehta too. With a wanderlust spirit, he has explored captivating destinations such as Georgia, Dubai, the UAE, Vegas, and beyond, enriching his experiences and sharing his adventures.
Travel, more than a pastime, is a transformative journey of self-discovery, and cultural immersion for him. “Travel embodies the essence of nurturing oneself, finding inner peace, and embracing diverse experiences,” begins the avid traveller on a brighter note. “It’s about immersing oneself in different cultures, understanding varied behaviours, and continuously learning from the world around us. Travel isn’t just a hobby—it’s a passion that fuels my soul. I approach travel with boundless enthusiasm, eager to explore new destinations and create unforgettable memories. Once one journey concludes, I eagerly begin planning the next, dedicating two months of every year to travel.”
From solo adventures in distant lands during September and December to seizing every opportunity for exploration, as he shares, “Travel holds immense significance for me. It’s not just a leisure activity; it’s a source of inner peace and rejuvenation. Every year, without fail, I embark on journeys abroad, particularly in September and the closing days of December. During these two weeks, I immerse myself in the experience of solo travel, relishing every moment of exploration and discovery.”
However, his love for travel extends beyond these dedicated months. Whenever an opportunity arises, whether for work or any other purpose, he eagerly embraces the chance to embark on new adventures. No matter how brief, he says, each trip fills him with a profound sense of happiness and contentment, enriching his life in ways that words can scarcely capture. From the snowy landscapes of Georgia to the historic charm of Istanbul, he recalls that each destination offered a unique cultural tapestry, inviting immersive exploration and unforgettable experiences. He shares “My recent adventure took me to the captivating lands of Georgia and Istanbul. Beginning with six delightful days in Georgia, I journeyed to the enchanting streets of Istanbul. From there, my exploration led me to the mesmerising landscapes of Cappadocia. Spanning a memorable 15 to 20 days, this journey was truly unforgettable. Each destination offered a unique cultural tapestry, showcasing diverse traditions and attractions.” Exploring Georgia’s picturesque locales and revelling in the snowy landscapes was a highlight, while Istanbul’s bustling streets and historic charm captivated him. Throughout his travels, he shares, “I indulged in a myriad of activities. From floating above the fairy chimneys of Cappadocia in a hot-air balloon—an iconic experience—to embracing the allure of Georgia’s famed attractions, every moment was filled with excitement and wonder. While Turkey is predominantly Islamic, Georgia is steeped in Christian heritage. This stark contrast in culture and language was a captivating aspect of my travels.”
In fact, interacting with the locals allowed him to delve deeper into the essence of each country. This profound exchange of cultural knowledge is precisely what fuels his passion for travel. Within India’s vast tapestry of breathtaking destinations, Leh, Ladakh, and Goa stand out as unparalleled treasures for him. He further expresses, “India is home to countless breathtaking destinations, but for me, the most remarkable ones are Leh, Ladakh, and Goa. These gems stand out for their unparalleled blend of natural beauty and cultural richness, setting them apart from the rest of the country. What sets these destinations apart is not just their scenic splendour, but also the unique cultural experiences they offer. The rich tapestry of traditions and customs in Leh, Ladakh, and Goa adds an extra layer of charm to every visit. Despite frequent trips, the magic of these places still needs to be improved.”
When it comes to accommodation, prioritising quality over cost is paramount for a memorable stay. From boutique charm to luxurious resorts, the ambience of a property sets the tone for an unforgettable travel experience. “In my opinion, selecting the right property can truly make or break a travel experience. By choosing accommodations that prioritise comfort, ambience, and overall enjoyment, one can ensure a truly unforgettable stay wherever their travels may take them.”
These experiences too come with times when one experiences something unsettling, and so did he experience too. He recalls, “While at Milan train station, I sensed someone following me as I disembarked from the train. Glancing back, my suspicions were confirmed as I spotted two individuals trailing behind me. With a sense of urgency, I quickened my pace, clutching my small bag tightly. Despite my efforts to evade them, they persisted, even following me to my hotel. It was a nerve-wracking ordeal, especially since I was travelling alone and had plans to journey to Zurich the next day.”
Navigating global cuisine as a vegetarian presents challenges, yet he unveils delightful surprises and unique fusion experiences. “Exploring different countries means immersing oneself in diverse cultures, including their culinary delights. As a vegetarian, however, navigating food options abroad can sometimes be challenging. While vegetarian options are becoming more common globally, many hotels and restaurants still lack them. This often means seeking out specific chains or establishments that cater to vegetarian diets. During my travels, I’ve encountered such challenges firsthand.
However, I’ve also discovered delightful surprises, like a restaurant in the UAE that skillfully blends Indian flavours with Arabic influences. Sampling their cuisine was a memorable experience, highlighting the fusion of cultures through food.”
As a solo traveller, he does allocate a significant portion of his budget, about 70%, to the exhilarating adventures. For him, these activities are more than just fleeting moments; they’re indelible memories that etch themselves into the fabric of his travels. Exploring the world through daring pursuits allows him to connect with each destination uniquely and unforgettably. From heart-pounding thrills to awe-inspiring vistas, these experiences enrich his journey and leave an indelible mark on his soul. Well, his bucket list is brimming with places waiting to be discovered, each offering its own unique allure.
