In a momentous occasion for Visakhapatnam, the world’s largest privately owned residential mega yacht, “The World,” made its inaugural docking at the Visakhapatnam International Cruise Terminal, marking the terminal’s emergence as a premier destination for international cruise liners on the east coast. Visakhapatnam Port Authority Chairman Dr M Angamuthu along with other port officials adorned with smiles and bouquets, extended a warm welcome as the vessel glided into the harbour, marking a significant milestone for tourism in the region. He highlighted the VICT’s state-of-the-art facilities and strategic positioning, designed to cater to the most luxurious cruise ships globally while ensuring exceptional comfort for tourists. Constructed at an investment of 96 crore rupees, the terminal aims to serve as a gateway, showcasing Visakhapatnam’s rich cultural heritage and captivating scenic beauty to international travellers.
Carrying approximately 80 passengers, “The World” brings a diverse group eager to explore the city’s cultural and historical treasures. Passengers can expect to experience pristine beaches, iconic landmarks, and a deep dive into the region’s vibrant culinary scene. A specially curated cultural program featuring Bharatnatyam and Kuchipudi performances will further enrich their immersive experience, celebrating the city’s vibrant local culture.
“The World,” renowned for its unparalleled luxury and adventurous spirit since its maiden voyage in 2002, boasts 167 lavish residences and a distinguished history of visiting over 1,000 ports of call across more than 120 countries. Owned by a diverse consortium representing 20 nations, the vessel’s residents share a common passion for global cultures, history, and the thrill of discovery.
K. Vijay Mohan, President of the Tours and Travel Association of Andhra (TTAA), emphasized the significance of “The World’s” arrival. He views it as a strong testament to Visakhapatnam’s growing appeal for international cruise companies, paving the way for significant growth in tourism and economic opportunities. Following its brief sojourn in Visakhapatnam, “The World” will set sail for Port Blair before embarking on a Southeast Asian adventure, including stops in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam. While the ship’s stay is short-lived, its presence serves as a powerful symbol of Visakhapatnam’s burgeoning reputation as a major player on the global tourism stage.
