BJP state president Daggubati Purandeswari paid tributes to Engineer Sir Arthur Cotton who constructed the Dowleswaram barrage across the river Godavari near here, on the occasion of his 221 st birth anniversary. she garlanded the statue of Sir Arthur Cotton at the barrage.
She recalled the services of Sir Arthur Cotton to India during British rule as an engineer on the occasion.
Rajahmundry YSRCP MP Candidate Dr.Guduri Srinivas also paid rich tributes to Engineer Sir Arthur Cotton by garlanding the portrait of Arthur Cotton.Meanwhile, in Kakinada, Engineers from all wings paid glowing tributes to the memory of Sir Arthur Cotton at a meeting held at the Institute of engineers here on Wednesday to mark his 221st birth anniversary.
JNTUK Registrar Prof L Sumalatha attended the meeting as the chief guest jointly organized by the JNTUK, Institute of engineers Local center and retired irrigation engineers association. Retired superintending engineer N Arjunarao attended as the Guest of honour.Institute of engineers Kakinada local center chairman and School of Food technology and Biotechnology head Dr M. Ramesh has chaired the function.
Prof Sumalatha said that future engineers should emulate Sir Arthur Cotton and take up programmes aimed at benefiting the society.The barrage constructed across the river Godavari by Sir Arthur Cotton has brought lakhs of acres in both the Godavari districts into assured irrigation thereby changing the entire economy of the region driving away the recurring drought. It is highly admirable that Sir Cotton ventured to construct the barrage when there was not much technological knowledge, Sumalatha explained.
