VMRDA unveils ambitious `250 cr convention centre project

The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the development of a world-class convention centre integrated with a minimum 5-star hotel/resort and waterfront entertainment facilities. This prestigious project, valued at approximately Rs 250 crore, will be undertaken through a public-private partnership model. It is poised to significantly enhance Visakhapatnam’s standing as a prominent business and tourism destination.
Strategically situated within VMRDA Park on Beach Road, the project capitalizes on the city’s vibrant beachfront. Encompassing 7.97 acres, the site offers ample space for comprehensive development.  
The cornerstone of this development is a state-of-the-art multi-purpose convention hall designed to accommodate at least 2,500 attendees in a flexible, partitionable theatre-style layout. This versatile space will cater to a wide range of events, conferences, and exhibitions of national and international significance.
Additionally, the project includes a luxurious 5-star hotel/resort boasting a minimum of 200 rooms, providing exceptional accommodation for discerning guests. Complementing these facilities will be high-quality waterfront entertainment amenities, the specific details of which will be outlined in the proposals submitted.
This development aligns perfectly with VMRDA’s Master Plan 2041, which was approved in 2021, adhering to the designated recreation land-use zone. The project is expected to yield a multitude of benefits, including attracting prestigious national and international meetings, events, and exhibitions. It will also stimulate the growth of Visakhapatnam’s tourism sector and generate significant employment opportunities within the region.
