Gender parity main objective of NEP 2020: AP Governor

Vijayawada, November 11: Andhra Pradesh Governor and Chancellor of Sri Padmavati Mahila Viswavidyalam, presided over the 19th and 20th Convocations of the University held at Indira Priyadarshini Auditorium in Tirupati, on Friday.

Delivering the Convocation address, Governor Harichandan has said that Sri Padmavati Mahila Viswavidyalam has consistently made tremendous progress in the past four decades as an institution of higher learning through transfer of knowledge and skills and was poised to make its mark at national and international levels. The Governor has said that India’s higher education system is the second largest in the world and is extremely important to provide cutting-edge, knowledgeable, highly skilled manpower for the growth of the nation and excellence in higher education can be achieved only through sustained efforts in curricular and research activities and through efficient periodical assessment and accreditation.

It is a positive indication that there has been an upsurge of female enrolment in higher education in alignment with the National Education Policy-2020 which was the primary objective of the policy is to bring every girl child to the forefront of the world of knowledge, said the Governor.

Governor Harichandan has said that the NEP 2020 is enabling a shift in 34 years, that pledges the transformation of education, facilitating equal education opportunities for girls and for the special concern groups like transgenders. He further added that the NEP 2020, within its framework contains numerous provisions in education system for the attainment of gender balance and the policy has recommended setting up of a “Gender Inclusion Fund” to build the nation’s capacity to provide equitable and quality education for girl students.

Governor Harichandan said that he was happy to learn that the University has been placed at higher ranking globally and retained its rank of 151-200 in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), under university category and obtained 42nd rank in Pharmacy category for the year 2021-22. He has congratulated the recipients of gold medals, research scholars, post-graduate and graduate students who received their degrees during the Convocation.

Earlier, Prof. Jamuna Duvvuru, Vice–Chancellor, has presented the annual report of the University. Harichandan, Governor and Chancellor of Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswavidyalayam, was felicitated by the Vice Chancellor with a memento. R.P. Sisodia, Special Chief Secretary to Governor, also attended the Convocation programme.
