Students at Kakatiya University in Warangal staged an all-night protest as slabs crashed down late at night in a hostel room on the university campus. Fortunately, no one was injured as the room was vacant. Recently, a student suffered injuries when a ceiling fan fell on him.
A large portion of a roof slab fell in a room at the Ranirudrama Women’s Hostel on Friday night. The incident sparked an outrage among students who staged a protest on the campus demanding the sacking of the Registrar.
Mild tension prevailed on the campus following a heated argument between the agitating students and the university Registrar Mallareddy, who went to inspect the hostel room. The students prevented the Registrar from entering the hostel and demanded. They accused the administration of neglecting the hostels and
The students said that their pleas for better facilities fell on deaf ears of the University authorities. They threatened to organise agitation if the Registrar was not removed.
Friday’s incident follows a similar one on June 29, where a ceiling fan fell on a first-year postgraduate student, Lunawat Sandhya, at the university’s women’s hostel. The student suffered a severe head injury and had to be hospitalised.
Kakatiya University was rocked by protest for long. The state government in May this year ordered a Vigilance and Enforcement (V&E) department inquiry into the affairs.
