Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, has some intriguing news regarding the MCU’s post-multiverse future: ‘The Mutants’ will be the main focus. A number of the mutants have already been shown to us in Deadpool and Wolverine promos footage and more.
After Disney purchased the mutants’ rights in 2019, the characters made their debut in other MCU projects. Fans have previously seen Deadpool and the mutants in the Fox-owned universe.
Kevin Feige was quoted in a recent piece that detailed Marvel’s plans for when the Multiverse saga concludes. However, this does not imply that fans would have to wait for Avengers: Secret Wars to conclude the multiverse narrative. With Wolverine and Deadpool, it has already started. “Also, the ‘after’ is obviously something we haven’t had access to before now that we have characters from the X-Men world, the Mutants,” Feige added. He continued, “So, this is the beginning of that and every [movie] post Deadpool & Wolverine will be the Mutant era coming into the MCU.”
He also discussed whether fans will see more R-rated movies after Deadpool and Wolverine in the MCU. Kevin Feige said, “The before and after [aspect of it all]? I think a lot of people talk about the R-rating and ask, ‘Is every [Marvel] movie going to be R-rated after this?’ [And the answer is] of course, not. But I hope every movie after this embraces its tonality the way Deadpool & Wolverine and this team do.”
The Marvel boss also said, “The R-rating is never exploited; it’s never really used just to use it.” He also mentioned, “It’s just there as a facility to tell the most authentic story about these two iconic characters coming together on screen for the first time.” On July 26, Deadpool and Wolverine will hit the theatres.
