West Godavari District Collector C Nagarani has directed the officials to take all required measures to avoid loss of life and livestock due to floods in the district. She reviewed the flood situation of the Godavari River, streams and drains.
The Collector said that the people living in the low-lying areas should be more vigilant that there should be no loss of life, property or livestock while dealing with the consequences of heavy rains and floods efficiently.
In the West Godavari district, the Godavari river catchment mandals, Lanka areas, Narasapuram, Mogalthur, Yalamanchili, Achanta and Penugonda mandals have been given more attention. At present, the effect of rains is decreasing, there is a possibility of danger to the district in the form of floods due to the rains falling in the upper catchment areas. Keeping in this view, the Collector asked the authorities to be prepared to face any challenge.
If the floods and rains increase, the people in the flooded villages should be ready to come to the rehabilitation centres, the Collector said. The relief centres have been set up in government buildings and all the flood victims to come to relief centres. The authorities and staff have prepared rice, gas, vegetables, oil, and essentials and candles for the distribution of flood victims in the centres. Collector Nagarani directed the officials to keep ready generators to supply power without interruption at the relief centres.
She said that the water level of the river Godavar at Bhadrachalam, Dhavales-waram Godavari is being monitored constantly and necessary measures are being taken, she said. If there are any problems, the authorities should resolve them first without any hesitation and then bring them to her attention.
Sandbags, wooden logs, bamboo logs and other materials should be kept ready, the Collector told the officials. She asked to provide the details of the nodal officers appointed for each mandals and each rehabilitation center.
The officials were directed to take steps to supply drinking water, and food to the victims in relief camps and set up medical camps. The fishermen were already cautioned not to venture into the sea for fishing, the Collector said, adding that the deployment of NDRF and SDRF was sought.
