District Collector C Narayana Reddy said that there is need to control the presence of drugs in any form in Telangana. As part of this, the public should be made aware on drug control on a large scale.
Speaking at a meeting of the district-level Narco Co-ordination Centre Committee (NCORD) (Narcotics Control Committee) held in his chamber along with District Superintendent of Police (SP) Sharath Chandra Pawar on Thursday, the Collector said that though the police administration is working to control drugs, it is possible in a full-fledged manner only when the police and other departments concerned extend full cooperation. In view of the high prevalence of ganja in the district, special attention should be paid to eliminating it first. He said that ganja has become a social evil and society will be better only if it is completely eradicated and every department needs to take necessary steps for it.
He said an “anti-cannabis week” should be observed. Awareness programmes would be held every day.  He said that as part of the “Anti-Ganja Week,” flexis, posters, hoardings should be put up on a large scale to create awareness among the people and explain to them the ill-effects of ganja consumption in print, electronic media, social media, cinema theatres and local cable channels.
Various competitions will be held at the village, mandal, municipal and district levels. He said that the officials of the departments concerned should take steps to carry out awareness programmes from August 7, first organise a workshop on cannabis control for media representatives, then plan to hold a village-level meeting and rally in the villages, organise essay and elocution competitions for school and college students, and conduct a 2K run the next day. He directed to set up a special tableau and stall on ganja on the occasion of Independence Day.
District Superintendent of Police Sarat Chandra Pawar said that the consumption and transportation of narcotics, especially ganja, is high in the district and ganja is being transported as the national highway is about 70 km long. He said that though the police department is creating awareness through ‘Mission Parivartan’ in the district.
