MP Putta Mahesh Kumar has said that the tobacco farmers in the Eluru district have got a benefit of Rs 15 crore due to doing away with penalties on additional crops.
The tobacco farmers felicitated the MP here on Sunday. Speaking on the occasion, MP Mahesh Kumar said that the Central government issued a GO withdrawing the penalty on the additional tobacco crop raised by the tobacco farmers.
“The repeal of penalty on additional tobacco crop, raised by the farmers, resulted in the tobacco farmers having got Rs 15 crore benefit in Eluru district, and at the same time, the tobacco farmers across the state, have got a benefit of Rs 110 crore,” the MP claimed.
At a programme held at Devarapalli recently, the tobacco farmers appealed to the MP to ensure the lifting of penalty on additional tobacco crops raised by the farmers. MP Mahesh Kumar met Union Minister of Commerce Piyush Goyal and urged him to revoke the penalty.  The Central government issued a GO lifting the penalty on additional tobacco crops raised by the farmers.
Acknowledging the MP’s timely action, the tobacco farmers felicitated him in a grand programme today.
The tobacco farmers appealed to the MP to take steps to curb the manufacturing of fake cigarettes which caused a loss of Rs 25,000 crore in the country. MP Putta Mahesh Kumar said that as he promised in the election, he would strive to ensure that the farmers get remunerative prices for their produce. He stated that he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday and discussed various issues.
“I have required the Prime Minister to provide remunerative prices to the farmers for their produce, expedite Polavaram project works and do justice to the evacuees issue,” the MP noted.  
“The Centre will grant Rs 12,000 crore for the Polavaram project construction in the Cabinet meeting. In the recently held Parliament meetings, I spoke about employment for youth, remunerative prices for farmers, Polavaram and railway projects,”, he acknowledged adding that he asked to provide a half to the ‘Vande Bharata’ train in Eluru.
