District Collector P Prashanthi asked the rice millers to purchase paddy from the farmers and directed the civil supplies and revenue departments to monitor the process.
The Collector held a meeting with rice millers’ association representatives here on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that with the aim of providing the minimum support price to the farmers, targets would be set to the rice mills on the purchase of paddy from the farmers.
Collector P Prashanthi said that following the guidelines of the state government, the details of rice mill-wise collection of grain will be informed in advance to the representatives of the association, adding that targets will be given according to the capacity of the respective mills. The Civil Supplies Department as well as the Revenue Department have also been ordered to participate in the procurement of paddy produced by the rice millers from the farmers, she made it clear.
Mandal Development Officers should also take responsibility and Mandal Special Officers should inspect at the field level and actually identify and confirm the ganney bags in the grain buying centres, she directed the officials.
The Collector clarified that the primary responsibility of the government is to provide a minimum support price to the farmers. The rice millers claim to provide bank guarantees. The transport authorities should take steps to ensure that the paddy transport vehicles have the GPS tracking facility. Required number of hamalies should be kept ready for unloading the paddy from vehicles, the Collector told the officials.
Joint Collector S Chinna Ramudu ordered the officials concerned to take steps to ensure that e-crop booking and the registration of the crop should be completed by October 1st. The officials should examine the necessary infrastructure in the purchasing centers under the coordination of other concerned departments, he told them. Sub-collector S Chinna Ramudu, Ashutosh Srivatsava, RDO KL Shiva Jyothi were among those who attended the meeting.
