Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh conducted a review of flood relief measures with senior officials on Tuesday. He met with DGP Ch D Tirumala Rao, Special Secretary to the Chief Minister Ravichandra, and Intelligence DG Mahesh Chandra Ladda to assess the progress of relief operations and urged officials to intensify efforts as the floodwaters begin to recede.
The Minister emphasised the importance of vigilance from the Medical and Health Department, noting the potential for disease outbreaks in flood-affected areas. Medical services are being provided through 14 relief centres across the flooded regions of Vijayawada.
Arrangements have been made to distribute 10,000 medical kits by helicopter, with current flood flow at Prakasam Barrage recorded at 7,47,344 cusecs as of 6 p.m., expected to return to normal levels by tonight.
Plans are in place to distribute 3 lakh food parcels to flood victims, with helicopters set to deliver food and water bottles to Vambay Colony, Ajit Singh Nagar, Arunodaya Nagar, and Jakkampudi Colony.
Minister Lokesh later held discussions with Ministers Vangalapudi Anitha, Kollu Ravindra, Kolusu Parthasarathy, and Chief Secretary Nirab Kumar Prasad on the ongoing relief efforts. Generous donations are being received from across the state to support flood victims.
Visakha MP Bharat and the Chairman of GITAM Educational Institutes will provide food for 50,000 people, with a further 25,000 being supported by NRI TDP. The TTD is contributing 5,000 rice packets.
Since the morning, 55,000 kgs of food and water bottles have been dropped by helicopter across 34 flood-affected areas, including Vambay Colony, Ajit Singh Nagar, Jakkampudi YSR Colony, and New Rajiv Nagar.
To ensure effective relief operations, Minister Lokesh has assigned one MLA to oversee each ward, with senior IAS officers already monitoring ward-wise relief efforts.
In a show of support, donors from across the state have handed over cheques to Minister Lokesh. Contributions include Rs 10 lakhs from Kallam Rajasekhar Reddy of Mangalagiri constituency and Kommareddy Kiran, Rs 7 lakhs from AV Ramana Reddy, Rs 1 lakh from Medarametla Subbaiah of Ongole, and Rs 50,000 each from Aluru Kondalarao and Aluri Jhanseelakshmi.
Minister Lokesh continues to coordinate closely with Ministers Payyavula Keshav, Kondapalli Srinivas, MP Keshineni Chinni, and TDP State President Palla Srinivas Yadav to ensure the ongoing success of the flood relief measures.
