Minister of Coal and Mines, Government of India G Kishan Reddy flagged off the Secunderabad – Vasco – Da – Gama inaugural Express from Secunderabad station on Sunday.
Addressing the gathering, Kishan Reddy stated that in the last few years, Telangana has been witness to a host of infrastructural developments pertaining to Railways. He stated that there was a long-pending demand to run an exclusive train to Goa from the capital city region of Telangana. In order to meet the aspirations of the people, one exclusive and direct express train to Vasco Da Gama from Secunderabad is being introduced for 2 days a week, he said.
He stated that the train provides direct facility to the people of major cities of Telangana like Hyderabad, Shadnagar, Jadcherla, Mahbubnagar, Gadwal and important places of Andhra Pradesh like Kurnool, Dhone and Guntakal towards Goa. Apart from Goa, this train also caters to the people who wish to travel to major cities of Karnataka like Bellary, Hospet, Hubbali, Dharwad and Londa, he added.
Speaking on the major upgradation of railway stations in Telangana, he stated that Secunderabad railway station is being redeveloped with world-class standards at an estimated cost of Rs 700 crore and the works are targeted to be completed by the end of 2025. He stated that Secunderabad station is second after the New Delhi railway station in running the highest number of Vande Bharat Express services. He informed that development works at Cherlapalli railway terminal are nearing completion. Major terminal stations in twin cities like Hyderabad, Kacheguda are also planned to be upgraded with modern infrastructure facilities. With regard to infrastructure achievements, Kishan Reddy stated that 346 kms of new lines, 383 kms of double line, third line and fourth line have been laid in Telangana during the last 10 years.
Addressing the gathering, M Anil Kumar Yadav appreciated railway authorities for providing direct new trains from Secunderabad to Goa. He also stated the twin cities people used travel to Goa by road, which is unsafe when compared rail travel. Now people can travel with safety and comfort by the new train service.
