Panchayat Raj, Rural Development, and Women and Child Welfare Minister Seethakka inaugurated the Telangana Disabled Job Portal at the Secretariat on Monday. She also handed over appointment orders to 10 individuals at the Women’s Welfare Department’s helpline centre.
The event was attended by Women and Child Welfare Secretary Vakati Karuna, Disabled Welfare Corporation Chairman Veerayya and JD Shailaja from the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities and Senior Citizens.
A large number of representatives from associations of the disabled were also present.
In her speech, Seethakka stressed the challenges faced by disabled individuals in securing employment.
“Opportunities for disabled people are limited. Fighting for equality like other groups is difficult for them. Physical disabilities are beyond one’s control, and factors such as malnutrition or accidents can lead to disability. We are launching this online job portal to help these individuals,” she said.
Seethakka emphasized that private companies must follow reservation policies for disabled individuals.
“There’s no need for disabled people to go around seeking jobs at companies. Registering on this online job portal is enough, and jobs will be offered based on their qualifications,” she said.
She also outlined the government’s commitment to empowering disabled individuals. “We are allocating 5% of welfare funds for disabled people, and we are pushing for 4% reservations in private sector jobs. Previously, it was only 1%, but we are working to increase it to 4%. In schemes like Indiramma housing, reservations for disabled individuals will be strictly followed.”
The minister assured the government’s dedication to uplifting the disabled community. “This year, we are allocating Rs 50 crore in the budget for providing assistive devices to disabled individuals. There’s no need for them to run around government offices; just share your problems with us directly, and we will ensure they are resolved.”
She concluded by urging the disabled community to be united and report any issues they face, promising that the ‘people’s government’ would resolve them.
“The backlog posts, which have been pending for a long time, will soon be filled,” she announced, encouraging disabled individuals to pursue opportunities in fields that interest them.
