The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Vijayawada Branch celebrated World Standards Day (WSD), Manak Mahotsav, with a technical seminar at the Hotel Hyatt in Gunadala. The theme of the seminar was ‘Our Shared Vision for a Better World—Sustainable Development Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure’. The event saw participation of over 170 representatives from various industries, academic institutions, consumer organisations, and government departments.
BIS Vijayawada Branch Head and Senior Director MAJ Vinod outlined the objectives of the BIS during the programme. He emphasised that the primary goal of BIS is to ensure the availability of quality goods to consumers. Operating under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, BIS is responsible for the standardisation, marking, and quality certification (ISI) of goods, as well as management system certification.
MAJ Vinod highlighted BIS’s role in contributing to the national economy by ensuring safe, reliable quality products, reducing health risks for consumers, and promoting both exports and import substitutes. He stressed the importance of consumers verifying the BIS quality standards of products and encouraged them to report any defects to seek compensation.
BIS State Deputy Director D Vivek Vardhan Reddy, alongside officials Koushik, D Akhil, SVBS Bhavan Narayana, S Padmalatha, and Krishna Veer were present.
